Design Systems
Project info
Scope
A 100 year old company needed to design a comprehensive and scalable design system that improves design consistency, accelerates development workflows, and enhances user experiences across a re-imagining of legacy capabilities. The system should address both current industry needs and be adaptable for future growth.
Discovery
We audited and prioritized existing design patterns and user scenarios to identify redundancies and streamline consistency. Through stakeholder workshops, usage analysis, and validation via user testing and developer feedback, I aligned on goals and ensured feasibility. To address challenges like cross-team alignment and adoption resistance, we implemented a governance model, incremental rollouts, and comprehensive documentation, laying the foundation for a scalable, unified design system.
Outcomes
I designed a platform framework and collaborated to build trust with our early adopters. The accomplishments of this effort enabled real-time views of operational data. Reducing hundreds of hours of administrative hours. And provided a huge potential to reduce rework in UX operations.
Gathered collaborators
Established a core library
Developed lightweight governance for collaborative feedback loops
Collaboration
Getting a team together to implement and prioritize a design system is probably the toughest part of doing this kind of work. and even when you get the team together the challenge is maintaining the priority.

Foundations
Core to any design system is the the basic style library or tokens to be reused

Density
There are different needs for different surfaces. So we can maintain both the display marketing style guide and an enterprise productive interface guideline.

Templates
We create a library of reusable screens to duplicate and start modifying for specific use cases.

Patterns
Allow us to focus on how we consistently guide users through the systems workflows.
